A couple nights ago, I decided to make a favorite of mine...meatloaf! While I was gathering ingredients and preparing the meal, I got to thinking about how my mom made meatloaf and how that was an actual topic between me and other online friends so many years ago. One friend mentioned meatloaf and we all just started telling how we liked it, how we made our own and just discussing the basics of a good or great or even awful meatloaf. I remember telling people how I made mine and they all seemed fine with the whole process until I posted what I made my meatloaf in. lol
This is basically what I use...
It's been the only way I've ever known and never gave it a thought...until I was questioned on WHY I use my Dutch oven instead of a bread loaf pan. For the first time in my life, I had to question why my way was different from most! I finally realized my mother just never used the "conventional" way of meatloaf in a bread pan because it just wasn't big enough for our family!
And so...instead of posting a recipe for meatloaf...I'm posting my thoughts on how even something so simple as what we use for recipes can be a big difference in what others use. I wonder if that is how my mom was taught to make meatloaf or if she chose that way on her own to adapt to a bigger family.
It's just food for thought today on things we do and never really think about.
