Let's give some attention to butterflies! :)

Butterflies 20200810
Butterflies 20200810
Butterflies 20200812
Butterflies 20200811

I don't know how anyone manages to use a phone for sites and posting!! What a big pain in the butt!

Anyway... visited my sister over the weekend and saw approximately a hundred Monarch butterflies flying all over the place and it was such a beautiful and cool thing to see! Last picture shows four hanging together.

That must have been an amazing sight to see in real life!!  Shiny happy smile
We are drastically down on butterfly numbers this year, except for cabbage whites. Well, all insect numbers are down actually - bees, wasps, hoverflies, ladybirds, dragonflies, they all seem to be down a lot on numbers.
It's worrying. A lot of stuff in the garden didn't get pollinated.

It really was amazing! :) I'm going to see if tomorrow I can get a short video to post.

I'm really sorry to hear about all the butterfiles and insects! I started planting more wildflowers and when I saw that my oregano flowering tops were attracting a lot of bees, I just let it all flower and every day there is at least ten bees just in that area.

For the Monarch butterflies, milkweed is what brings them in. My sister makes sure to leave the milkweed growing.

Do you have bee keepers in your area that might be able to set up something closer to your garden area? Here, we have some asking people to please let them set up some hives in areas they would be okay to have them.

Do you ever try the self pollinating when bees aren't around? I've never tried it but read that it's supposed to be another good way to get the job done.

This is a moth... saw these when on a vacation at a cabin. They aren't quite the same as butterflies, but I think they still have beauty.

Moths are lovely insects.
We were lucky enough to get hummingbird moths to arrive down this side of the country this year.
I had quite a few in my garden as did my friends.

That scene reminds me of a guy I dated and how he claimed to love nature and then.... one day, we were talking on the phone and he told me about a butterfly he thought was so beautiful... can't remember what he did but end result was butterfly no longer alive and saved to look at (preserved) I often wondered how anyone who loves nature could do that. What?
