I have had tons of issues with my headphones and speakers not working and have to believe it's most likely the sound card.
I bought this external sound card and plugged it in. I've only used it for my headphones and can listen to videos and whatnot. That's all I care about. A decent fix for less than $20. When I first plugged my headphones into this, they didn't sound so great. I couldn't really hear what was being said or the other noises. I was almost ready to send it back, began to unplug my headphones and was surprised that with a slight pull, something changed and everything was louder and I could use my headphones.
I'm no expert and don't need anything too fancy, so... this works for me! Sometime, I may try the other ports with different things, but the headphones were all that mattered to me.
